The University of Washington’s Professional and Continuing Education program is launching a new certificate in Green Chemistry and Chemical Stewardship in January 2015. Here’s how UW PCE describes the new certificate:

Study the fundamental principles of green chemistry, which encourages the reduction in use of harmful substances through chemical design and material decision making processes. Examine the connection between chemicals, toxicity and human health and how these factors influence material and product decisions. Learn how to identify sustainability issues related to the adoption of green chemistry practices and how to apply your newly acquired knowledge and skills to promote chemical stewardship.

The three core courses for this certificate program will be: Sustainability, Toxicology and Human Health; Principles of Green Chemistry; and, Assessment Tools for Safer Chemical Decisions. Dr. Ann Blake of Environmental & Public Health Consulting will develop the curriculum for the third course, and will be the primary instructor. The third course runs from June 22 to August 28, 2015.
