On July 27, 2012, the long-awaited California Safer Consumer Product regulations have been issued in final draft. This is the culmination of a four year process of stakeholder consultation, and takes chemicals policy reform the next step: if you manufacture a product in California that is identified as containing a Chemical of Concern, as a manufacturer, you are obligated to find a safer alternative.

For a press release and to read the text of the final draft regulations, go to Cal/EPA Department of Toxic Substances Control’s Green Chemistry page.

The League of Women Voters’  Bay Area Monitor published my article about the regulations in their June/July 2012 issue.
